About
Taiwan Election Lab collects candidates and results for Taiwan's county, city and presidential elections, and sets this year's candidates' official policies side by side by topic. It does not score or endorse anyone. The English edition translates the interface and explanations; candidate names, policy texts and source titles stay in the original Chinese.
1. Sources and editorial principles
- Results: from 1994 onward, the Central Election Commission database is the only source. County elections from 1950 to 1993 are cited from Chinese Wikipedia (based on county gazetteers and the Taiwan Provincial Election Gazetteer) and are marked on each county page. Some years list only the winner or lack turnout; they will be checked against the original gazetteers.
- Turnout: county figures for presidential elections come from the CEC's county-level summaries; counties merged in 2010 are combined as total ballots divided by total eligible voters.
- Policies: only candidates' official campaign sites and social accounts, the CEC election bulletin, material submitted under the rules below, and official government press releases. News reports are used only when no official text exists, and are labeled as such.
- No scores or rankings: positions are placed side by side by topic, with verifiable facts (figures, timelines, beneficiaries) and no editorial judgment.
- No polls: this site does not publish or cite election polls.
- Traceable: every item carries a numbered source linking to the original page and the date it was checked.
2. Submitting official platforms
Registered candidates and the parties nominating them can submit official platforms. Submissions are labeled “provided by the candidate” and shown separately from the site's own summaries. Every candidate in a race gets the same layout and fields; when one candidate submits, the others in that county are told they can do the same.
Submission address:
Please include the organization and contact person, the candidate's name and county, the official website or social account, and a link to the original text (or the page number in the election bulletin), and confirm that the site may quote it. PDF attachments or links only. You will hear back within three working days.
- Not accepted: attacks on other candidates, poll figures, AI-generated or deepfake images or audio, and anything that cannot be matched to an official original.
- No fees, advertising or donations are accepted from parties or candidates.
- Content is not added or changed on election day; after the vote it is kept as a historical record.
